Building a Trail up Salvation Knoll

The purpose of this reunion, or its high point, was service. We wanted something to commemorate the sacrifice of our ancestors in building a road through an extremely rugged wilderness, including Hole-in-the-Rock. We did that by building a trail up Salvation Knoll.

Agents of the BLM contacted the Hole-in-the-Rock Foundation (or was it the other way arround?) with a marvelous opportunity--that of building a hiking path up Salvation Knoll where our great, great, grandfather and his associates had a significant experience. (More about that later.)

We gathered at the base of the knoll along Highway 95, early on the morning of June 4th, 2011 and got to work:

I have no hope of being able to pick out all the names.  My apologies.  Enter comments or send email and I will make corrections.

You wouldn't believe some of the rocks we moved!

A pretty desert flower and an ugly camera strap.

This balancing rock is hidden away on the south side of the knoll.

This view is of the valley next to Salvation Knoll, taken from the trail.

That would be Joseph Savage.
